See what work with AI looks like today
Across many different jobs, in people's own words, side by side.
Expert interviews
We ask experts who inspire us, from all kinds of fields, how AI is changing their work, the way they think, and what they trust.

Want a topic of your own? Pick one in Topics.
Open topics
For now we write about AI at work in general, across fields. We're planning themed articles too. If you're an expert in one of these areas and it's closer to what you do, join the topic. As soon as three people join, we prepare the questions and send them out.

What's next
We're exploring different formats and still thinking them through, so nothing here has a date yet. Join the ones you'd come to, or suggest your own. The most-wanted goes first.
About Shift
Shift is where people from all kinds of jobs answer questions about how AI is changing their work and the way they think, so we can all learn from each other.
How it started
Before Shift, we ran private interviews as research for Mantle Chat. We loved them, and they were really valuable, but they stayed private. So we decided to try one public article. So many people joined in, and we enjoyed the first part so much, that we turned it into a project: Shift.
Now we write about the people who inspire us: people whose best practices we want to learn, who are shaping how work is changing right now, and who shape how we build Mantle Chat.
We believe taking time to reflect is an important part of the work. Behind every tool there are real, living people. And for us, AI is a tool for doing our own creative work.
Why this exists
We started Shift because we're curious how AI is changing people's everyday work, and we want to learn directly from the people living through it. A few people also came to us with this very idea, asking for a place like this. So we decided to make it happen.
The interviews bring together experts from different fields, share experiences others can learn from, and make room for reflection. Over time, we'd love to build a community where these conversations can continue.
Honestly, we love listening to people, and we like sharing our own story too. It's how we learn what work really looks like today, instead of guessing while we build. We're ready to give it real time.
Who it's for
For readers
Across many different jobs, in people's own words, side by side.
For the people we interview
Your words are handled with care, you see everything before it goes live, and you meet others who think about the same things.
What worries us
Two of them are already articles on the schedule: fact-checking, and AI and the planet.
Who's behind it
Together we build Mantle Chat, a place where teams work with AI side by side, in shared channels. Katja is a designer, Ilia is a developer.
Shift and Mantle Chat are closely connected. Mantle Chat is our picture of how AI could work: a shared space where a team works together. So we're genuinely curious how other teams work, and Shift is where we ask. We invite people we find really interesting, and if some of them end up using Mantle Chat too, that would be wonderful.
We're also looking for co-hosts for the live calls and co-authors for the articles. If that sounds like you, drop us a line.
ConnectQuestions
The short answers. For anything else, .
About 20 minutes for ten questions, in writing or on a call, whichever you prefer. Skip anything you don't feel like answering.
Whichever you prefer. We can send you the whole draft with your parts highlighted before it goes live, or just send you the link once the article is out.
Most articles are general parts of AI at Work, across fields. A themed topic starts once three people join: we prepare the questions, send them to everyone who joined, and put the article on the schedule. An article without a date comes out as soon as its experts are in.
Three to six. Six is the most.
We fill each part in the order answers come in. A part has up to six people, so the first six to send their answers are in the next part, and everyone else is in the one after. The sooner you answer, the sooner you're published.
Sure. We can describe your work in general terms and leave out your name, company and photo.
We are: Katja Danilina and Ilia Barchugov, the co-founders of Mantle Chat. There's more about us and why we do this on the About Us page.
